Belize is at a transformational point. With stewardship over the world’s second-largest barrier reef and a diverse ocean territory, we possess both the opportunity and the responsibility to leverage our marine resources for sustainable growth and national resilience.
Our ocean has shaped our past and present, and it’s central to our future. It supports our communities, drives our economy, and offers a pathway toward a more resilient and inclusive Belize. The Belize Blue Economy Development Policy, Strategy and Implementation Plan (2022–2027) is our strategic framework for delivering national transformation. It sets out a plan for a regenerative ocean economy where innovation, sustainability, and equity work hand in hand.
Our goal is to establish Belize’s blue economy as a global benchmark, one where marine resource not only endure, but drive economic prosperity. We are committed to ensuring that coastal communities benefit from opportunity, that young Belizeans lead in science and marine enterprise, and that climate resilience is built into our core strategies.
I want to thank everyone involved: fishers, private sector, scientists, NGOs, educators, development partners and civil society. Through joint effort, we’re building a sustainable and equitable blue economy that meets the present’s needs and preserves our ocean’s wealth for the next generation. Belize’s future is bright, and the world is watching. Let’s lead with vision and collaboration.
Hon. Andre Perez
Minister of Blue Economy and Marine Conservation
