The Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI) is mandated to provide evidence-based technical guidance to inform policy development for the utilization and planned development of Belize’s coastal zone. Thus, CZMAI’s mandate is focused on policy development and coordination, planning and monitoring the use and development of resources within the coastal zone of Belize. At the center of CZMAI’s legal mandate is the preparation and implementation of a national Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) plan to enable government and other key stakeholders to make defensible and ensuring decisions for the sustainable use and development of coastal resources. CZMAI also has a legal responsibility for the licensing of sport fishing activities in Belize as per the CZM Act and CZM Authority (Sport Fishing) Regulations of 2009.
